My Fiber Art Journey started in the early to mid 1990’s when my Show dog Chiclet retired from showing. I needed a new hobby while I waited for her and her daughter Almond Joy to live out the rest of their lives. I started with spinning and knitting. I joined the local Fiber Arts Guild; Blacksheep Handweaver Guild in Los Altos, California. It wasn’t long before I took up weaving too. I learned my weaving skills from several members of the guild and participated in a couple of workshops and swatch exchanges. I was fortunate to have the owner of the locale weaving shop take me under her wing and let me work for here in the evenings after my regular job. I warped looms and helped with other tasks around the shop earning knowledge and discounts. At home I worked on a four harnesses Harrisville that I had purchased from another member. I had five spinning wheels, one hand made by my father before his Parkinson’s got too bad to continue woodworking. But I only had room for one loom so I sold my Harrisville and purchased a Schacht 8 Harness Baby Wolf. I was an active member of the Guild and continued weaving until Chiclet passed away and I obtained my First Boston Terrier; Zoe (pet quality). After Joy passed I sold my loom to purchase my second Boston, Phoebe; my best and last show dog. When my husband passed away, I lost the desire to continue showing dogs. I started quilting and sold all but one of my five spinning wheels. I met Ray in 2010, retired in 2015, moved here in 2017 and took up spinning and weaving again. There are no longer any dogs in my life. But I love being here with Ray and I’m so happy that we found DFA. Update: We found a rescue dog in 2023 named Tina. Tina is a delightful little chihuahua mix that doesn't want to leave my side.
