Autumn Leave Shawl

Our next meeting will be July 17th from 6:00 – 8:00pm in Conference Rooms A & B at the Richland Library.

This was an incredibly busy meeting, there were 23 knitters here tonight!

  1. First we finished and delivered the Summer Reading Raffle Afghan. I am always amazed at how well all the  squares go together. Thank you to everyone who knit squares and to Holly for taking the photo. Can you find 5 H’s, 3 falcons and a well-known Hanford High activity? HHS afghan
  2. CeCe Jenkins from Merrie Greenwood gave us presentation about her department and asked if anyone wanted to do some knitting for her. The patterns all have a wing or scale theme and are on Ravelry if you want to take a look. Nancy G (Mermaids Song), Lindsey M (Sirens Song), Joyce W (Phoenix Wing) and Sheila D (Forest Dragon Wing) all volunteered to knit some very cool looking shawls. CeCe got the yarn and the patterns donated by several different vendors. The yarn is amazing and anyone who volunteers will get free admission to Merrie Greenwood in September
  3. The By the Book Knitters volunteered to knit the Autumn Leaves Shawl for use by a Dryad at Merrie Greenwood. We have 5 colors of DK weight yarn in nice coppery autumn colors, this yarn went home with 5 knitters to start this project ASAP. The pattern calls for 54 assorted leaves. We are looking for donations of green/teal/purple DK yarn for the pops of color. I have copies of the pattern at the next meeting for anyone who wants to participate.
  4. Also CeCe needs any dark colored DK weight yarn for another project. All yarn must be wool.
  5. Project WarmUp in Pasco is in need of acrylic yarn. This is the group that receives all the charity knitted hats for distribution to school kids in Benton and Franklin counties.
  6. Lindsay knitted a great shawl with tassels. The tassels were attached to the shawl with lobster claw clips for easy removal. Cool idea!
  7. **Color Challenge. I found a challenge issued by the Central Oregon Spinners and Weavers and thought we might like to participate.   Click here to see the Challenge.   Using your 3 initials you select 3 colors and 1 neutral, then make something. We will show them off at the Christmas Party. Some of the colors have unique non-descriptive names (Harlequin, Ube and Xanadu) to the actual colors check out these websites:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_colors  https://www.colorhexa.com/color-names

** I contacted the Central Oregon Spinners and Weavers and told them I stole/borrowed their idea.  I heard back from Donna Wilson –    “We are happy you found it useful… note we Borrowed it from Portland Hand weavers guild.  Sharing is caring.  We’d love to see your results.”
