Summer Meetings

The RHSG will continue to meet throughout the summer months, with the exception of May 28, 2018, the 4th Monday of May, as this coincides with Memorial Day. We will, however, be meeting 3 times in June: the 4th, 11th, and 25th which are the first, second, and fourth Mondays, then continue on as usual with 2nd and 4th Mondays of July and August.  Mark your calendars!

On June 4, we will begin warping for the Theo Moorman Technique (TMT) of inlay.   This is not a formal workshop and is open to anyone with a rigid heddle loom that is interested in learning the technique.

  • We will begin by helping everyone get their loom warped.
  • You will need 2 heddles of the same dent that will be suitable for the fiber that you have chosen for your ground cloth, which is the background of the item you are weaving.
  • Also bring clamps, heddle blocks and any other equipment you use to warp your loom. As many will be warping, please have a preplanned warp length.
  • You will also need a sturdy cord to lash the supplemental apron rod to the apron rod on your loom.
  • We have found that it is easier to warp the tie-down warp using a supplemental apron rod. To add a second apron rod, you will need a stick or dowel similar to the type of apron rod your loom has, for example if you have a dowel, a dowel will work better if you have a flat stick, a stick will work better.  The supplemental apron rod is not necessary on the Beka loom.
  • Texsolve, to attach the supplemental apron rod to the warp beam on your loom will be provided.
  • The tie down thread should be of a similar color as the ground cloth and much smaller. For example, if your ground cloth is 3/2 perle cotton, then the tie down could be 20/2 perle or something smaller.
  • We will be direct warping.
  • Kathy Myers will be demonstrating the procedure with two heddles. She has provided samples of the inlay.
  • DFA members may go to the Rigid Heddle Forum/Theo Moorman technique to view them and leave comments.   Theo Moorman Link Here

Also, we would like you to reserve your space on the Events page and write in the Comments area that you are going to be warping for TMT indicating how wide your loom is that you are using so we can have necessary equipment. (Example): TMT 20”.  Theo Moorman Event Link
