Spinning Class – By the Breed

Three Hours of Eye Opening, Knowledge-Filled Spinning and Fun:

A class for spinners to be held on Saturday,
April 13, 2019, 9 AM – 12 PM at Desert Fiber Arts Guild Studio, taught by Rebecca Harkins. This class is
designed to widen spinners’ knowledge of different breeds of wool and the appropriate uses of each. You will be spinning 5 different types of fiber and learning handling techniques for each. This class is for you if you are interested in expanding your fiber knowledge and already know at least the basics of spinning. Spinning basics will NOT be taught so you should be comfortable with your wheel but not necessarily an expert.

The objective of this class is to develop skills with hands-on experience for you to be able to confidently widen your wool horizon.

The class will cover:

  1. The history/origins of different breeds and their wool characteristics.
  2. Appropriate projects for the wool types.
  3. Spinning and washing techniques for maximizing the wool’s potential.
  4. Learn how to be more open and confident in choosing previously shied-away-from fibers when they are the best choice for your project.
  5. Cost of the class will be $50 and which includes: all supplies and fiber plus informative handouts for the 3 hour class.
  6. Spaces available: Minimum: 5 students; Maximum: 10 students.
  7. Priority registration given to DFA members until March 16, 2019. After that date, Registration will be open to the public.
