Desert Fiber Arts Members: Please respond to Sharon by March 13th

Please Read and Respond if you have interest in any or all of the proposed possibilities. A follow up will be presented at the March 15 DFA meeting: https://www.desertfiberarts.org/events/monthly-general-meeting-2018-03-15/

Respond to Sharon Ofsthun:  so******@gm***.com . She will keep a tally sheet of the responses/preferences.

Proposed Date: Week of July 15-July 23.     The week is being held open by the workshop instructor until we respond in 2 weeks.

Primarily, there is an interest in Nuno felting by several members. The instructor can teach other areas of fiber interest as well.

The workshop committee would like to propose a multi-faceted workshop:

  • Nuno Felting
  • Wet Felting
  • Dying of fiber and yarn
  • Thread Plying Techniques
  • Spinning Beehive Coils

Class size would be limited to space at the studio and number of sessions. The Nuno felting and Spinning techniques could each be ½ day, again depending on interest response.

3-4 days of classes in some combo of the following, depending on interest

  1. Nuno Felting with Silk Hankies: 3 hour class,  1 or 2 sessions for up to 12 people each session. Requires access to water.
  2. 1 day wet felting technique class. Full day (6 hours plus a breaks) for up to 12 people. Requires access to water. Sample sizes of techniques like: scrumble lace, openwork, resist work: ruffles, cracked mud, add-ins like lace fabrics/trims (Limit to 10-12 students)
  3. For the spinners: Spinning Beehive Coils: 3 hour class for up to 12 people
  4. For the spinners: Thread Plying Techniques: 3 hour class for up to 12 people
  5. Dye Your Own Fiber: full day (6 hours plus breaks) for up to 12 people. Requires access to water and two 3 prong outlets.

When expressing an interest, look at your calendar to make sure you would be available during that week. Of course, the days would be consecutive but not limited to the weekend. Please indicate in your response the days you would be available. We will put together a request for those most in common.

Allison’s teaching fee is $75/hour plus supplies ($20 or less per person depending on class and attendance). Mileage would be about $100. (200 mile @.50 per mile) which would be prorated among participants. She would need accommodations and is fine with staying with a guild member or air bnb.

If we fill one 3 hour class of 12, per person cost might be around $40 including supplies and travel.

Pam Root and Dorothy Mucha have taken a class from Allison Harding at Columbia Gorge Fiber Festival, fall 2017. Allison is a pleasant and knowledgeable instructor. This is her web site : http://fleebersfarm.snugpixel.com/

Our studio will be able to accommodate all of the proposed activities.
